Directive 2011/24/EU – adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union – on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare ensures access for all citizens of the Union to safe, secure and high-standard cross-border healthcare.
In accordance with the EU Directive, from 25 October 2013, Member States shall be obliged to ensure equal and equitable treatment to all EU citizens in the course of their care based not on their belonging to the member state of affiliation.
